My Little Pony is a toy and media franchise owned by the American company Hasbro, and they have long and windy ties to Filly ever since the latter's beginning.

Relations to Filly

Filly was created in 2006 and was initially competing against what is known as My Little Pony Generation 3. When My Little Pony G3.5 two or three years later proved unpopular with toy collectors, Filly kept growing in popularity, to the point that when the decently popular television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic reached German shores in the summer of 2011, the accompanying Generation 4 toys were heavily marginalised by Filly toys. This is known to annoy a lot of German bronies, as the Friendship is Magic fans are called.

A story about the origin of Filly tells that it was originally based on G3 brushable-toy molds during Hasbro's transition to G3.5, but this has largely been disproven as being mistaken for a series of other Simba horse brands, as well as it being disproven that Simba invented Filly.

Some of the My Little Pony characters' names are known to pretty close to those of Filly characters. The fourth generation of My Little Pony has ponies named Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, and Trixie. Filly includes similarly named Fillies, such as Luna, Celestia, Rainbow, Dash, Twilight, Princess Sparkle and Trixie. Names like Luna, Twilight and Trixie are however common names in various forms of literature and product naming.

The English-language Filly Funtasia fandom as we know it began with 4chan /mlp/ threads from the 13th of October 2013 (where Filly websites and articles were discussed before the first trailer was revealed) and with the fan newssite Equestria Daily posting the October 2013 trailer of Filly Funtasia on the 16th of October 2013, from which news of the trailer quickly spread to many other My Little Pony fan sites. The general reaction was largely negative to the point where bronies to this day are still demeaning to it, sending death threats to fan artists of Filly, and made BRB Internacional very cautious about Filly Funtasia on its YouTube account for more than half a year after it. But there are some that think this show has potential and viewing ability, a few of which in turn began organising on fansites and subcommunities.

Equestria Daily also posted a few more articles about the show over the years:

  • October 16, 2014: The October 2014 trailer
  • October 8, 2015: The then-upcoming release of Filly Funtasia and the Magical World trailer, before it was further delayed.
  • March 3, 2019: The then-upcoming release of Filly Funtasia on Frisbee in Italy, along with videos of the Italian TV Spot and the Magical World trailer.
  • March 11, 2019: Had links to uploads of The Cupcake Mystery on YouTube, with and without subtitles (both were later taken down by copyright).

No more Filly-related posts were made for the site, for the site is focused exclusively on My Little Pony and its fandom.

It has been stated by at least one BRB Internacional official that Filly Funtasia is not competing directly against Friendship is Magic, and that Filly Funtasia has several bronies in its production crew.
